In this article you will find information on our discontinued Roost Garage Door Sensor. This product can no longer be purchased from our online store.
Will my current active Garage Door Sensors continue to function?
As long as your devices are active and currently checking in with the cloud every 24 hours they will continue to function until the battery power level depletes.
Will the warranty on my current devices be honoured if something goes wrong?
We will honour any warranties where we can – as there is no remaining stock of the Garage Door Sensor we will not be able to offer replacements but if you purchased these devices within a year and we have helped troubleshoot with no resolution, we would be happy to process a full refund for you.
Setting up for the first time
If you have a Garage Door Sensor that you are trying to set up for the first time, unfortunately it will not be able to communicate with the Roost cloud and will no longer function. Set up will only be successful if the device has been set up previously and checked in recently. If you purchased it within the year directly from Roost, please reach out to support for further assistance.
Low battery
The Roost garage door sensor will typically last approximately 2 years. Replacement battery packs for the Garage Door Sensor are still available to purchase from our online store for a short time while stocks last. These can be used with existing Garage Door Sensors when the battery level becomes low. There is no need to set up your device again when replacing the battery pack – simply remove the smart module (the small rectangular end piece) from the old battery pack and attach it to the new one. In a day or 2 you will see the updated battery level reflected in your app.
Missed check in
If your Garage Door Sensor shows a last check in date over 24 hours ago in your app, or you have received an email letting you know that it has not been able to check in recently, there are a couple of possible causes for this –
- Weak Wi-Fi signal strength – you can test this by bringing the device close to your router and resetting it (instructions below). Leave it there for a day or 2 to allow it to force a check in.
- Low battery power level – for now replacement battery packs are available for purchase from our online store.
If the above steps do not allow your device to begin checking in again, please reach out to support for further assistance.
Resetting
To reset your Garage Door Sensor, remove the smart module (small rectangular end piece) from the battery pack, wait 10 seconds, then replace it. You should hear a single beep and see a flashing LED on the long side of the device. If you do not hear the beep or see the flashing LED, please reach out to support for further assistance.
Information on alerts
The type of alerts the Garage Door Sensor provides are activity alerts and peace of mind alerts. You can set your activity alerts to either 'alert me always', or 'set custom schedule'. If you do not want to receive ANY alerts when your garage door opens and closes, please set a custom schedule with a very narrow window in which you'd like alerts (maybe even a time when your garage door never opens, say midnight to 5am). You may then wish to set up your Peace of Mind Alerts for when your door is left open.
Disposing of my Garage Door Sensor
If your Garage Door Sensor battery level becomes low and you replace it with a new replacement battery pack, you can dispose of your old battery pack by recycling it in the same way that you would a standard 9V battery.
